The TCL Chinese Theatres Tour is the only tour in Hollywood where you learn the history of cinema from inside and out. The Tour features stories and fun facts from the theatres beginnings to today, ranging from Hollywood premieres, to imprint ceremonies of your favorite celebrities in the Forecourt of the Stars. So walk through the golden doors of this Movie Palace of the Stars on an exclusive 30 minute Walking Tour. A visit to Hollywood is not complete without this stroll through Hollywood movie history. Tickets can be pre purchased but we chose to do it on the day.
The theater itself is iconic but....the crowds can be pushy and the parking terrible. I would recommend an Uber or Lyft to the location to walk around. Lots of street vendors can be aggressive too. Its worth the walk to see all of the stars on the walk and the dates signed. It can also be a bit dirty and there are no bathrooms available either. I would recommend keeping the stuff you are carrying to a minimum too...less to keep track of. As with any city area, beware of pickpockets and panhandlers.
This tour was an absolute rip off! Whilst interesting outside to see the hand/feet imprints of the stars, the visit looking at various costumes, including two pairs of sports shoes discarded by their owners, and a series of photographs, the whole purpose of the visit was to be shown around the theatre auditorium itself - not available duting our tour. As such we were short changed and should have been told this part of the normal tour was not available - we wouldn't have taken it. Do NOT waste your time or money on this so call 'attraction'.
It wasn't on our list, but using the hop-on-hop-off bus, we got the free entrance with the bus tickets. It is a bit complicated that the tours a time-dependent so you can't get inside when it is suitable for you, but you got to wait for a certain period that they will share when you get there. However, the tour itself was interesting, history, stars, old-time Holywood glamour, lots of fun facts, unfortunately, we could not hear well what the guide was saying as the sound from the movie projection was extremely loud. It is a short tour, but it wasn't a waste of time. If you happen to be there, I would recommend the visit
The tour gives you insight into the history of the theater which is still in use for showing the current movies of the day, It was a little dark in the theater and you have to watch your step. Our tour guide talked about the design of the theater and its changes made over the decades. He also gave us details of the footprints and hand prints displayed in the front yard. Once outside he talked about the prints and the unique earring Marilyn Monroe left in her spot. According to our guide Star Wars brought much popularity to the theater.
I took my friends visiting LA on a VIP tour of the TCL Chinese Theatre. Our tour guide was great and very informative. There were many famous hand and footprints outside the theatre which was awesome. The theatre itself is beautiful and historic. The main theatre is IMAX with reclining seats. There is another set of smaller (by seats) movie theatres upstairs, one being in 4D! I have seen movies in both the main theatre and upstairs and it has been a pleasant experience. They also serve alcohol which is nice to have a beer and watch a movie. The tour was great and the theater is even greater!
We had been quite disappointed in the Hollywood walk of fame, as it seemed stars were given to anyone who wanted one. This was not the case with the theatre, and all of the handprints belonged to fully established actors. The tour inside was also interesting, giving us some extra background information and a good chance to view and photograph the beautiful theatre.
