Tour exceeded my expectations. Loved every minute of it. Guides were wonderful. Saw many whales, dolphins, and turtles. I would return again and again. I will recommend to my friends as well. Best part was the small size of group allowing more flexibility and better viewing. Oh…and the snorkeling was awesome too!!
COST: About $350 (local resident rate) for the two of us (me + cousin). This included a 3-hour tour, snorkels and fins and a life vest. Tips not included but highly recommended. We did the 0730 AM tour, which is the best time to see dolphins. You also have to drive here now, no transportation included like the good old days. BATHROOM: next to Spinner's Cafe, three wooden bathroom stalls where you can change, unisex. Two cold showers outside where the office is. BOAT: twin-engine zodiac-type boat that moves pretty fast! Sit in the back if you're prone to seasickness but the diesel fumes can hit you in the face and make you feel sicker. The capacity is 15 people per boat. I loved sitting in the back and watching the aft waves while the sun came up...heavenly! I normally do get seasick but on the 4 times I've frequented this outfit, I didn't throw up once! One of the passengers did hurl chunks overboard but I made sure I didn't smell any of it...or else... CREW: gone are the days of the professional photographer and the Japanese translator, but you do get a marine biologist and captain, who is also a marine biologist! Captain Jenna was driving the boat and miss Alyssa was our guide, a wonderful crew that made our trip super fun! Capt Jenna made it memorable by throwing a microphone into the water and letting us hear the whale sounds. SEALIFE: if you don't see any dolphins, your next excursion is free! Of course you will always see dolphins on this tour, because the boat goes where they live! Gone are the days where you could passively swim with them, floating over them as they swam under you. As of Oct 2021 the law was changed and you are no longer able to swim with them, but you can see them from the boat, and they do come up very close. We also saw different types of dolphins, sea turtles, albatross, spouting and breaching whale(s). SNORKELING: you are allowed to snorkel with a few turtles in about 25-30 ft of crystal clear blue water. Mostly the turtles stayed on the ocean floor ignoring us. Hardly any fish. There was a super fat purple starfish which I thought was cute. A smattering of a few small brain coral but not much else except sand. There's another snorkeling spot with more fish but we wanted Jenna to get to the deep blue for the whales! We snorkeled in about 2800 feet of deep blue ocean, just to hear the whales in the water but we didn't hear any that time, and I was scared because it was unfathomably blue and dark with only the rays of the sun poking through. We were not allowed to swim away from the boat and we had to hold the rope so we didn't drift away. I got the hell out of there fast after I peed. GEAR: snorkel gear/mask was very good. They even have prescription masks for you if you are near-sighted. No leaking of water into the mask at all. Highly sanitized, if you're worried about germs. Fins were a great fit as well. BRING: Your towels. They have a dry area where you can store your stuff on the boat. Bring cash for tips also. Bring bottled water in case you throw up and need to rinse your mouth, and also because you may get thirsty with the salt water, sun and wind. If you can stomach snacks while on a boat, feel free to bring some. PHOTOS: I didn't get a lot of dolphin and whale photos, but I got a LOT of video. When you leave the tour, ask Capt Jenna if you can take a pic at the Captain's seat driving the boat. Fun for the kids! RETURN FACTOR: YES a 100%. I think even my in-laws would love this tour, even if they don't get into the water.
They went out of their way to make sure we had a once in a lifetime experience. We found 2 young whales who were playing with one another and got to enjoy them for nearly 1/2 an hour. It was fabulous, and I can't recommend them highly enough! The love for their job and the whales definitely shows through.
I have been on whale watch/snorkel Zodiac trips several times in Hawaii in the past but this was, by far, the best one. The captain, Jenna, was amazing and all the guests were so friendly. We saw so many Humpbacks, dolphins, and even Pilot Whales and turtles. I felt safe the entire time, both Covid-related and at sea. I would spend the money on this trip every single time. I have a lot more pictures to share with them if they want them.
If I could give this tour 6 stars, I would. We got to swim with turtles, dolphins & pilot whales and saw dozens of whales surfacing, breaching, tail slapping and playing. A special day out on the ocean that I will never forget! Thank you to Jenna and Flo and the entire crew - they were so friendly and knowledgeable.
We saw many spinner dolphins several whales and during snorkeling I spent a good 20 minutes connecting with a Sea Turtle I floated above it watching it swam near then back down-I never thought I would have such a personal experience. I learned a lot, saw a lot, connected to the ocean, sea life, and land. It was interesting to notice peoples faces changed as we returned with awe, fun, refreshed. Mahalo ❤️🐬❤️🐋❤️
I attended the whale watching tour at the end of December 2021. Not only did I see whales, but I also saw dolphins and turtles! We were able to follow 4 whales around for approx. an hour. At first, I thought this tour was expensive, however it was well worth the money to be on a private boat. There is also a whale watch guarantee, in which you get another free trip in the unlucky event that you do not see any whales.
